The First Prune

I've only ever cut my own hair ✂️

The First Prune

The First Prune

This post is late, probably because I was subconsciously putting off pruning. It's not so bad, though. The Genovese and Thai basils were in most need, and the chives, two stalks of which started touching the grow light, got a bit of a trim. Until other plants get taller, I'm going to keep up the periodic pruning and keep the grow light at the same height.

Before and After

Before and After

The two different types of basil are really making headway, as are the chives and curly parsley. The other pods are definitely struggling. After moving around some of the pod caps with condensation onto the stragglers, however, it looks like the Italian parsley is starting to make some noise (methinks the Thyme will be next).

I'm resisting the temptation to call Aerogarden to send some replacement pods for the ones that aren't showing any movement. In my mind that would make my thumb a lot less green (and it's already a very light shade). Partial kidding aside, I do wonder if there's any route to redemption here, as it seems like there's algae inhibiting growth on a few of the pods.

Gooey Algae?

Gooey Algae?

After pruning today, I ate some of the basil and chives - a lot of flavor on the basil, but not enough chives to really feel them out just yet. It was nice to taste the fruits of my (lack of) labor!

Homework: figure out the algae situation and decide if replacement pods should be requested.

Thanks for visiting! I hope you got something out of my little corner of the internet. If you feel like it and have the means, please consider supporting me.
